The Philadelphia Phillies (8-4) head to Busch Stadium to open a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals (5-7) on Friday.

The Phillies are coming off a tough 4-2 rain-delayed, extra-inning loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night/Friday morning. The loss moved them back into a tie with the New York Mets for first place in the NL East. They failed to capitalize on a chance to bury the Braves early, losing the series two games to one. They'll look to put the series loss, with the lone win coming in Taijuan Walker's start, behind them with a weekend in the Show Me state.

Last year, the Phillies went 4-2 against St. Louis, who at 5-7, sit 2.5 games back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. The Cardinals are coming off a series loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, although their lone win in that series came against Paul Skenes. They tagged him for five earned runs in that one on Tuesday.

The Cardinals certainly have some firepower in their bats, with the third-most runs scored in the majors with 72. However, they've also allowed the most runs with 74. The Phillies have a +13 run differential — 56 runs for, 43 runs against.

The veteran has had a tough time keeping the ball in the yard through his first two starts this season, allowing four home runs in 11 1/3 innings. He made two relief appearances against the Phillies last year, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk in just a third of an inning.
