The Philadelphia Phillies (36-23) head north of the border on Tuesday to begin a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays (31-28) at Rogers Centre.

After riding high on a nine-game winning streak, the Phillies came crashing back down to earth last week and come into this one with four straight losses. After taking two of three from the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies got swept out by the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend, and it didn't feel particularly close.

The good news for the Phillies is that Bryce Harper is back in the lineup. He missed almost six full games with a sore right elbow after being plunked by Braves starter Spencer Strider in the first inning last Tuesday.

After being outscored 37-14 in their last four games, the Phillies are 5-5 in their last 10. They trail the surging New York Mets by 1.5 games in the NL East.

The Blue Jays come into this series going in the opposite direction, having won five in a row. Their bats got hot over the weekend, scoring 39 runs in a four-game sweep of the Athletics. Toronto currently sits in second in the AL East, 5.5 games behind the New York Yankees.

The Phillies won three of four games between these two teams last season. The Blue Jays are 20-12 at home in Rogers Centre, while the Phillies are 17-11 on the road.

Phillies vs. Blue Jays probable pitchers, June 3

  • Cristopher Sánchez (4-1, 3.32 ERA) will open the series for the Phillies. The lefty has a 1.31 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings. He only picked up one win in May, taking no-decisions in his other four outings. He won both of his starts against the Blue Jays last year, striking out 12 over 14 innings and allowing just three runs to score.
  • Bowden Francis (2-6, 5.04 ERA) will counter for the Blue Jays. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 1.36 WHIP and has struggled with the long ball this season. With 15 home runs allowed, he has the second-most homers among starts with at least 50 innings pitched. Francis is coming off a five-inning, six-strikeout shutout performance against the Texas Rangers last week.
