The Philadelphia Phillies (34-19) are finally back at home to begin a six-game homestand, beginning with a set of three against the Atlanta Braves (25-27) at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies come into this one tied with the Detroit Tigers for the best record in baseball, and are the only team yet to lose 20 games. They dropped the final game of the road trip, but went 6-1 on the West Coast. They're 21-6 since their five-game losing streak. The Phillies are 9-1 in their last 10 and have sole possession of the NL East, leading the New York Mets by 1.5 games and the Braves by 8.5.
Atlanta has scuffled to 4-6 in their last 10 contests and lost two of three to the San Diego Padres on the weekend, despite getting Ronald Acuña Jr. back on Friday. One player who won't be with the Braves is noted 2023 NLDS villain Orlando Arcia, who was unceremoniously cut last week.
The Phillies are 17-8 playing at CBP this season, and they put that record on the line against the Braves' sad 9-18 road record. The Braves drew first blood this season, winning two of three games when the Phillies visited Truist Park in April.
Phillies vs. Braves probable pitchers, May 27
- Ranger Suárez (3-0, 3.70 ERA) will open the series for the Phillies. After getting off to a tough start in his season debut, the lefty has thrown three straight quality starts, allowing just three runs over 20 2/3 innings. Suárez blanked the Colorado Rockies over 6 2/3 last time out.
- Spencer Strider (0-2, 5.79 ERA) will counter for the Braves. The 26-year-old right-hander hasn't looked like himself in his two starts. After starting the season late, he wound up back on the IL with a hamstring issue and just returned last week. Strider gave up four runs on six hits with just three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings against the Washington Nationals in his first start back.
