Baseball is a crazy sport. One day you're on top of the world, and then the next, you're wondering where it all went wrong. Luckily for the Philadelphia Phillies, they are finishing on the right side of history this year, holding an 11-game division lead with only weeks left to play in the regular season.
On the flip side, things went badly quickly for the New York Mets. It's been so bad that they've been made a mockery of on social media.
The Mets' TV broadcast network SNY posted a meme back on Aug. 28 stating that they wouldn't be coming for the NL Wild Card, but the NL East title instead. This came just after the Mets swept the Phillies for three games in Queens to trim the division lead down to four.
It was looking grim for the Phillies at the time, but the narrative couldn't be any different now, just two weeks later.

The Mets are being made a mockery of after their epic collapse against the Phillies
Since that tweet on Aug. 28, the Mets have gone 4-10 and have the second-most losses in MLB during that span. The Phillies, on the other hand, have gone an MLB-best 11-3 and capped it off with a four-game sweep of the Mets. With 29 games to play, the Mets were just four games back in the NL East and 4.5 games up in the NL Wild Card. Now, coming into Sep. 12, they're 11 games back in the division and barely holding onto a 1.5 game lead for the last Wild Card spot.
Talk about aging like milk, given how different the tone has become in a short amount of time.
The Phillies were actually once chasing the Mets in the NL East. Feels like forever ago. The Phillies weren't playing their best baseball then, but they've counted on their recent acquisitions, along with the seasoned veterans on the team, to pull away with relative ease. The Phillies are looking more and more like a complete baseball team, with all aspects of the roster playing at an elite level.
The Phillies have the Mets out of the way now for the rest of the regular season. They've kicked them down and downright embarrassed them in dramatic fashion in the series, outscoring them 27-10 in the process. Now, the Phillies have their sights set on securing a top seed in the NL and setting themselves up perfectly for a great postseason run.
