The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to turn their season around as they go for a series win on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. They currently sit at 8-9 on the season and hold third place in the NL East. While the Phillies are still trying to find their footing as an NL contender, they need to take advantage of the early mess that the New York Mets have created for themselves after another loss on Tuesday.

The baseball season is only halfway through April, but the Mets have found themselves in the middle of a seven-game losing streak, the longest active streak in MLB. They've played some horrific baseball and have made themselves comfortable in the basement of the division. The Phillies have been far from perfect, but the Mets' current version of baseball leaves Phillies fans grateful for what they have going for them so far.

Mets' questionable play gives Phillies fans better feeling of a turnaround

No matter how you slice it, seven straight losses says a lot about how a baseball team is performing. During this streak, the Mets have been shut out three times and limited to one run twice. The early implosion also makes it sweeter for Phillies fans while they watch the Mets' countless mental errors and complete lack of slug in a supposedly upgraded lineup. Mets fans also can't be happy with their stars also off to rocky starts.

The Phillies are currently stuck in a familiar rut they find themselves in at least one time a year: the frustrating stretch of trading wins and losses, never getting too hot, but also never going completely ice cold. The Phillies' offense has shown up at times with the help of Phillies' first baseman Bryce Harper, who has a 1.215 OPS and only four strikeouts in 11 games this month. They've also gotten some help from the pitching staff, but couldn't recover from some blowups recently.

The Phillies would love to be further ahead in the standings than they currently sit. They have the aspirations and the firepower for another deep postseason run in 2026. Hopefully, this stale dance of back and forth eventually comes to an end, and they can take their rightful place at the top once again.

The Mets, on the other hand, are desperately trying to win their first game in over a week. For the Phillies, it could be worse, but for the Mets, their clubhouse, along with their play, is at an all-time low.
