MLB Network recently released their latest Shredder rankings ahead of the 2026 season and one notable Philadelphia Phillies reliever is missing from their list. Despite making the All-MLB First Team in 2025 for the first time, Jhoan Duran was not featured on MLB Network’s best reliever list according to “The Shredder.”
This list compiles rankings based on offensive and defensive metrics and analysis by MLB Network’s research team. His snub caught the eye of Phillies fans everywhere after the right-hander's strong performance a year ago.
Phillies top closer Jhoan Duran's snub from The Shredder's reliever rankings makes no sense
Duran, 28, enjoyed a very successful 2025 campaign between the Minnesota Twins and the Phillies. In 72 games in relief, he posted a 7-6 record to go along with a 2.06 ERA, his best mark since 2022. His 32 saves were a career high and also ranked him tied for fifth in all of baseball, alongside Aroldis Chapman and Emilio Pagán. Additionally, he ranked sixth in the league among relievers in fWAR at 2.1.
Duran showcased big-time velocity along with excellent control, as he pitched to 27 strikeouts and just one walk in 23 games in Philadelphia. This performance led to his first appearance on the All-MLB First Team alongside Chapman and ahead of Edwin Díaz and Andrés Muñoz, both of whom made the second team.
What makes this snub interesting is the fact that all of his counterparts on the All-MLB team were featured in the top five on the list with Chapman, Díaz, and Muñoz coming in at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5, respectively. We even saw former Phillies reliever Matt Strahm come in at No. 7. When you compare their statistics from a year ago, Duran performed better in every major pitching category except for WHIP.
Elsewhere on the list we saw Mason Miller, Cade Smith, Garrett Whitlock, Adrian Morejon, Josh Hader, and Jason Adam round out the top 10 alongside the aforementioned Chapman, Díaz, Muñoz, and Strahm.
This latest snub will likely give Duran some extra motivation heading into his first full season as the closer in Philadelphia. He will be the leader of a revamped Phillies bullpen that includes newcomers Brad Keller, Kyle Backhus, and Jonathan Bowlan to go along with veterans José Alvarado, Tanner Banks, and Orion Kerkering among others.
Time will tell if The Shredder’s ranking is correct or whether it should be taken to the shredder.
