The Field of Dreams Game went as well as it could have for both the Philadelphia Phillies and big slugging DH Kyle Schwarber. The man who mashed on Thursday night in front of a group of Hall of Famers put his signature stamp on yet another big game in a Phillies uniform. Outside just the impressive work he did on the diamond, Schwarber also had a hilarious moment before the game was even underway in Dyersville, IA.
According to Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation, the Phillies color analyst Kevin Stocker mentioned while on the Phillies radio broadcast that Schwarber was spotted in the Field of Dreams merch store grabbing up all the gear he could possibly fit in his hands. If that doesn't feel relatable as a baseball fan, I don't know what does.

Schwarber has never been your typical superstar athlete. He takes in the glory of the moment as an icon in the city of Philadelphia, but certainly more as a man with just a job to do while having fun doing it. Schwarber never shows too much emotion, is always level-headed, and is always someone you can count on to be the driving force for this offense. It also fits perfectly that he's the Phillie to flood the merch store and buy up everything he could. It's his laid-back personality that makes him so appealing to a fan base that asks a lot out of their athletes.

Schwarber was named the Field of Dreams Game MVP after going 2-5 with a pair of home runs into the Iowa corn and three runs driven in. As a reward, he got to enjoy some roasted corn with his old Chicago Cubs teammate, now broadcaster, Anthony Rizzo. Getting to see Schwarber take in the festivities as a leader was such a fun and enjoyable experience as a Phillies fan. It made it even more special that he's originally from the Midwest as well.

Schwarber was going through a slump recently, but you would never know it with how he carries himself every day. Schwarber is hitting .250 with an MLB-leading 37 home runs and also 72 RBI in 117 games in 2026. His .915 OPS is also the fourth highest in the NL entering play on Friday.
Schwarber has been one of the best sluggers in the franchise's history while still holding himself as the leader of a clubhouse still trying to find its way into postseason play. If Schwarber gets hot down this stretch, there's no better player to get behind to make a run at October baseball.
