Kyle Schwarber hit two home runs on Monday night to aid the Phillies' 13-7 rout of the Chicago Cubs. He once again showed the kind of power he possesses in the middle of the lineup for the Philadelphia Phillies. It's also a massive sigh of relief for Phillies fans knowing that he's in Philadelphia for the next five years and that he's already paying off the new contract with what could be another big home run year in 2026.

The Phillies' main goal this past offseason was to retain the big pieces of their roster for another deep postseason run. Schwarber was at the top of the list after his historic year walking into free agency. His 56 home runs in 2025 led the entire NL and were the second most ever by a Phillies player in a season. The Phillies showed faith that he could remain that caliber of player, and now have Schwarber locked down while on another chase for 60 home runs this season.

Kyle Schwarber might pass 60-homer milestone as Phillies contract begins

Schwarber signed a five-year, $150 million contract over the winter. It was a sign that the Phillies weren't willing to move away from their new home run king, and it's been a great move so far less than a month into the regular season.

Schwarber's six home runs are already tied for second in MLB, with a reasonable expectation that he'll finish among the game's best after the 2026 season. Barring injury, his raw power paired with his bat speed of 75.8 mph is a recipe for success, per Statcast. He has a reasonable chance to join that coveted list of only the 10 other players in MLB history to break through into the 60 home run club.

In just four-plus seasons as a member of the Phillies, Schwarber has mashed 193 home runs. He's also coming up on a career milestone with 346 career home runs overall. He's turned into one of the best home run hitters, not just for the Phillies, but across MLB the last half-decade.

Schwarber is among the best sluggers in the game and is already on pace for 60 home runs through 16 games. He's also hitting .236 with a 1.026 OPS and 12 RBI to start the year. His 56 home runs last season felt a bit like an anomaly and left many Phillies fans and fans across baseball awed by what he did in his MVP runner-up year. It felt like a one-of-a-kind season, but 2026 looks like the same Schwarber, if not better. He looks motivated.

Whether it's the money, the fanbase, or something else, Schwarber looks primed for another home run chase.
