George Springer on verge of leapfrogging Phillies' Kyle Schwarber during World Series

If only the Phillies' playoff run was longer.

The Major League Baseball postseason is truly a wonder. With the feeling of the crisp fall air mixed in with the crowd hanging on every pitch, it showcases the best athletes the sport has to offer in the biggest moments.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer had his moment in Game 7 of the ALCS when he hit a go-ahead three-run home run. That shot in the seventh inning sealed his team's destiny for their first World Series berth since 1993.

Springer's home run was not only an iconic moment, but it also put him in company with Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber. The no-doubter by Springer was the 23rd postseason homer of his career and tied him with Schwarber for the third most postseason home runs in MLB history.

George Springer can pass Phillies' Kyle Schwarber on all-time postseason home run list

The all-time leader is Manny Ramirez with 29, but Springer and Schwarber now sit in third place with 23. Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is second with 27.

Schwarber had a ton of playoff experience during his time with the Chicago Cubs before igniting a home run frenzy when he signed with Philadelphia in 2022.

In just 38 postseason games with the Phillies, Schwarber has amassed 14 home runs — two of which he hit during the Phillies' only four playoff games in 2025. It was another postseason cut short for Schwarber and the Phillies.

Much like Schwarber, Springer has had an extensive playoff career. Springer took a bit of a different route to get to his impressive 23 postseason bombs.

Like Schwarber, Springer spent most of his career with his previous team, the Astros. The main difference, however, is that Springer hit 19 postseason homers with the Astros by 2020. He then signed with the Blue Jays as a free agent in 2021 but didn't hit his next one until Game 2 of the 2025 ALDS. Springer has revitalized some of his postseason magic with four home runs during their World Series chase.

Phillies fans have every right to believe that Schwarber could have easily kept adding to his homer total if it wasn't for the Phillies exiting another NLDS. It's more of a team sport, and that's what makes feats like this so challenging. You don't know when or if that opportunity will ever present itself again.

Schwarber had his moment when he took over third place just a few weeks ago, but now Springer has become his old self again. There's a good chance this race doesn't end here, but you never know when that time to strike will be there again, you just have to be ready to deliver once it does.
