The annual MLB Winter Meetings are coming up next week in Orlando, Florida. This is a time when free agent signings and trades occur. The Philadelphia Phillies may shake up their roster following back-to-back years of their season ending in the NLDS.

While they will turn to free agency as an option to improve their club, Dave Dombrowski, the president of baseball operations, will also keep an eye on the trade market to see if any available players can enhance the team.

ESPN recently published an article about trade proposals that would be attention-grabbing at this year's winter meetings. MLB insider Eric Karabell included a deal involving the Boston Red Sox trading outfielder Jarren Duran to the Phillies for Alec Bohm.

The one-for-one trade proposal comes in light of recent one-for-one trades and would represent a fresh start for both players.

Swapping Alec Bohm for Red Sox's Jarren Duran would be an upgrade for Phillies' outfield

Duran has been mentioned in trade rumors due to the plethora of Red Sox outfielders. They would like to re-sign Alex Bregman, but it is not a guarantee. While Bregman is a more consistent player, Bohm would be an adequate replacement at third base before he becomes a free agent following the 2026 season.

Duran would improve the Phillies in center field. Manager Rob Thomson prefers an outfield rotation, but the 29-year-old has proven his durability for the Red Sox since 2024. He played in 160 games last year, followed by 157 this season.

The Corona, California, native hit .256 with a .774 OPS, 16 home runs and 84 RBIs this year. He has improved his run production each season, with 75 RBIs in 2024 after finishing with 40 in 2023. He had an .828 OPS two years ago and .834 in 2024. Duran can play all three outfield positions, with 287 career games in center and 250 in left.

According to Karabell, the Phillies would be trading someone in Bohm, who hasn't always enjoyed playing in Philadelphia. The front office could find another player in free agency or via trade who is more of a fit for the team if they part with him.

Bohm could certainly use a change of scenery and the Phillies need to make some roster changes this offseason. After being mentioned in trade rumors last offseason, it appears Dombrowski will kick the tires again to see if there is any interest in the third baseman.

The deal would be a fair one that could benefit both franchises and two players who need a change of scenery.
