Spring Breakout is a four-day event showcasing the future of baseball with matchups between many of the game’s top prospects. The event debuted last year in 2024 and is back in 2025 from March 13-16. There will be 16 matchups this spring, including the Philadelphia Phillies vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 14.

Spring Breakout is an exciting opportunity for each team’s top prospects to face one another and allows fans to see what the future holds. The Phillies’ roster last year featured 19 of their top 30 prospects.

The 2025 MLB Spring Breakout rosters haven’t been announced, but expect to see many of the Phillies’ high-profile prospects participating.

5 must-see Phillies prospects who should participate in the 2025 MLB Spring Breakout

Aidan Miller, SS

Aidan Miller is the Phillies’ No. 2 prospect and No. 27 overall, per MLB Pipeline. The 20-year-old shortstop has been nothing short of impressive since the Phillies drafted him with their first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Miller hit .414 with a 1.011 OPS through 10 games in Rookie ball in 2023 before quickly moving up to Single-A where he played in 10 games. He started the 2024 season in Single-A, made a stop in High-A for 58 games and was promoted to Double-A before the season ended.

Miller has a career .267 batting average with 31 doubles, seven triples, 11 home runs, 62 RBI and 27 stolen bases through 122 minor league games. He’s a right-handed hitter who projects to find himself in the middle of the Phillies’ order within the next two years.

The Phillies invited Miller to spring training as a non-roster invitee but reassigned him to minor league camp after the team’s first eight games. The young prospect didn’t have many opportunities at big league spring training, receiving just nine at-bats. Miller walked and struck out three times and didn’t record a hit.

Miller has a bright future ahead of him. He was selected to the 2024 Futures Game and projects to be a cornerstone of the Phillies’ organization for many years.

Justin Crawford, OF

Justin Crawford is the Phillies’ No. 3 prospect and No. 63 overall, per MLB Pipeline. The 2022 first-round pick has had a ton of success through his first three minor league seasons but is a rather polarizing prospect.

Crawford has a career .316 batting average in the minors, including a .333 average with 14 extra-base hits and 26 RBI in 40 games in Double-A a season ago. The 21-year-old not only produces at the plate, he stole 40 or more bases in each of the previous two seasons, including 47 across Single-A and High-A in 2023.

Despite being selected for two Futures Games in his first two full minor league seasons and being named the Florida State League top MLB prospect and MVP in 2023, evaluators have had a hard time figuring out Crawford. The young outfielder tumbled down Baseball America’s top 100 prospects rankings from No. 44 overall in September to No. 96 this year.

Nonetheless, the Phillies are high on Crawford and invited him to spring training as a non-roster invitee. Like Miller, Crawford didn’t see much action through the team’s first eight games and was reassigned to minor league camp. He was 3-for-10 with four runs scored, two walks, two stolen bases and struck out only once.

Eduardo Tait, C

Eduardo Tait has quickly risen as one of the Phillies’ top prospects since signing for $90,000 out of Panama in 2023. The left-handed hitting catcher is the organization’s No. 4 prospect and No. 92 overall, per MLB Pipeline.

Tait was an offensive force across 44 games with the Phillies’ two Dominican Summer League teams in 2023. He slashed .333/.400/.517 with a .917 OPS, 18 extra-base hits and 36 RBI. He started the 2024 season in rookie ball in the Florida Complex League with 13 doubles, six home runs and 49 RBI in 51 games before being promoted to Single-A.

Tait’s defense needs to keep improving but at just 18 years old, he has plenty of time to grow in that area. The offensive production is there, and the Phillies believe Tait can be the catcher of the future in life after J.T. Realmuto.

Moisés Chace, RHP

The Phillies acquired Moisés Chace during the 2024 season along with right-handed pitcher Seth Johnson from the Baltimore Orioles for Gregory Soto. Chace made a strong impression on the Phillies’ organization across 28 1/3 innings between High-A and Double-A. As a result, he’s the Phillies’ No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline.

Chace is an electric pitcher who generates a ton of swings and misses. His fastball sits in the mid-90s and can reach close to triple digits. The right-hander struck out 48 batters in six starts as a member of the Phillies organization in 2024 and had a 13.89 K/9 across 80 1/3 innings.

In addition to his overpowering fastball, Chace mixes in a sweeper, cutter and changeup. The 21-year-old needs to work on his command, but the Phillies believe he can make an impact on the big league roster within the next few years.

Gabriel Rincones Jr., OF

Gabriel Rincones Jr. is off to a hot start as a non-roster invitee to Phillies spring training. The left-handed hitting outfielder is the Phillies’ No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and has hit three home runs through eight games played this spring.

Rincones Jr. is slashing .308/.438/.1.000 with a 1.438 OPS and three walks in 13 at-bats. The 24-year-old is a long shot to make the Opening Day roster, but he has shown signs of a player who can help the major league team win if needed throughout the 2025 season.

Rincones Jr. was the 93rd overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of Florida Atlantic. At 6-foot-3, Rincones Jr. has the frame and strength to be an effective power hitter at the next level.

He has 26 home runs, 47 doubles and 92 RBI through 188 career minor league games, and his approach at the plate should translate well in the majors. Rincones Jr.’s baserunning is also an underrated part of his game as he stole 55 bases across his first two seasons.

The Phillies may need outfield help throughout the season so if Rincones Jr. keeps up this pace, he could be a contributor sooner rather than later.
