The Philadelphia Phillies will need contributions from some of their reserve players to reach the finish line strong. Both shortstop Trea Turner (right hamstring strain) and third baseman Alec Bohm (left shoulder injury) were placed on the 10-day injured list on Sept. 8.
3 Phillies players who need to step up in the absence of Turner and Bohm
Otto Kemp, UTIL
Otto Kemp receives another call-up from Triple-A with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs due to the Turner and Bohm injuries. He started at third base during Philly's Sept. 8 contest against the New York Mets, batting ninth.

Kemp's previous stint with Philadelphia was from June 7 until Aug. 17. He made his debut in the Majors after they placed Bryce Harper on the IL with right wrist inflammation. Manager Rob Thomson played the 25-year-old Kemp at first and third base and in left field.
It would appear Kemp would be playing at third base most of the time while Bohm is unavailable. Considering Thomson could also give utility players Edmundo Sosa and Weston Wilson time at third base, Kemp may also play in left field while he remains with Philly.
The Fullerton, California, native had a .657 OPS and a .228/.298/.359 slash line in 46 games with the Phillies before they optioned him to the IronPigs in mid-August. Kemp has a chance to improve upon his first call-up to the Majors after spending time with Lehigh Valley over the past few weeks.
Edmundo Sosa, UTIL
Edmundo Sosa has been the Phillies' top reserve player since they acquired him from the St. Louis Cardinals at the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline. Thomson has played him at second, third base, or shortstop.

Sosa has played in 33 games at both second and third base so far in 2025. He can play in the outfield as well, playing in two games in left and one in center field. His start at shortstop for the Sept. 8 contest marks his 12th time playing the position this season.
Thomson will take advantage of Sosa's defensive versatility once again following the Phillies' latest injuries. The 29-year-old will play primarily at shortstop, second, and third base. He began the season hitting extremely well through the first month.
The Phillies would benefit if Sosa gets on another hot streak offensively with Turner and Bohm unavailable. The native of Panama City, Panama posted a .273/.309/.426 slash line and a .735 OPS in 81 games prior to the latest injury shuffle.
Bryson Stott, 2B
Bryson Stott spent some time as Philly's leadoff hitter previously this season. However, Thomson moved him back toward the bottom of the Phillies' batting order after the second baseman began to struggle offensively earlier in the summer.
The 27-year-old, who debuted in the Majors with the Phillies in 2022, made an impression at shortstop that year before Turner joined the Phillies. Stott played in 14 games at the position last season.

He will likely see some playing time at shortstop following the Phillies' latest injuries if Thomson wants to play Sosa at another position. Stott had an offensive resurgence in August, finishing with a .864 OPS and a .307/.384/.480 line in 75 at-bats during the month.
Thomson may bat Stott in the leadoff spot again in Turner's absence if the second baseman continues to hit well during September. Other than he and Kyle Schwarber, Thomson does not have other available options on the Phillies roster whom he has placed first in the batting order often.
Bryce Harper led off for the Sept. 8 contest, but he has not hit leadoff consistently during his seven seasons with Philadelphia. It would not be surprising if Stott gets more opportunities to lead off for the club while Turner is on the IL.
