3 gigantic Phillies All-Star Game snubs not joining Zack Wheeler, Kyle Schwarber

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is just over a week away. While no Philadelphia Phillies position players were named as starters after the conclusion of fan voting, they will still be sending some players to Atlanta to participate in the Midsummer Classic.

The full All-Star Game rosters were announced on Sunday evening on ESPN, and the Phillies had two players named to the National League roster. However, there were three shocking names left out that perhaps shouldn't have been omitted.

It's no surprise to see right-hander Zack Wheeler named to his third All-Star Game. However, left-handers Ranger Suárez and Cristopher Sánchez were both snubbed from the NL squad. Slugging designated hitter Kyle Schwarber was the lone Phillies position player also added to the roster, while shortstop Trea Turner was questionably left off.

Wheeler, coming off a complete game shutout on Sunday, has dazzled this season with a 9-3 record, a 2.17 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP. His 148 strikeouts leads all NL pitchers and he has walked just 25 in 116 innings across 18 starts. This marks his third All-Star nod, all of which have come since signing with the Phillies.

The ace is coming off a spectacular June that solidified him as a Cy Young favorite and saw him named the NL Pitcher of the Month. He went 2-1 with a 0.58 ERA in five starts, becoming the fourth Phillies pitcher with a 0.60 ERA or better with 30 or more innings in a month since 1912, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

Pending free agent Schwarber is putting together an impressive contract season that earned him his third All-Star nod. He’s slashing .251/.383/.541 with 27 homers, 63 RBIs and 63 runs scored. Despite being the Phillies’ primary designated hitter, Schwarber has amassed the second most fWAR (2.5), behind Turner.

Phillies’ Suárez, Sánchez and Turner all snubbed from 2025 All-Star Game

Suárez is 7-2 in 12 starts after starting his season on the injured list. He has a 1.99 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 77 innings. Since allowing seven runs in an abbreviated season debut, the lefty has a 1.23 ERA in 11 starts, with 10 quality starts, striking out 67 and walking 17 in 73 1/3 innings. Suárez made his first career All-Star team last season, but didn't pitch due to a back issue.

Sánchez is also 7-2, but through 17 starts this season. The 28-year-old has a 2.68 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 108 strikeouts in 100 2/3 innings. He also made his first All-Star Game last year and pitched in Texas, retiring both batters he faced.

After being voted in as the starting NL shortstop in last year's game (despite missing six weeks on the IL), Turner was snubbed this year despite leading the NL with 109 hits and arguably having a better first half than both of the finalists, Francisco Lindor and Mookie Betts, in the shortstop voting. The 32-year-old is slashing .299/.351/.451 through 88 games, with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs, 61 runs and 22 stolen bases. He leads all NL shortstops and Phillies position players with 3.9 fWAR.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game takes place on July 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET at Truist Park and will be carried by FOX.
