Significant changes to the Philadelphia Phillies roster may be in store during the offseason. Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto, and Ranger Suárez are the notable free agents on the club. It is unlikely all three players will return to Philadelphia for the 2026 season.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller recently wrote a piece about 10 MLB All-Stars who are most likely to be traded this offseason and included players who have one or multiple years of club control remaining after 2025.

According to Miller, 86 players have been All-Stars in multiple seasons and have at least one year of club control remaining. The 10 players included some who were in trade rumors around the most recent trade deadline. Which three players could and should be Phillies in 2026?

3 MLB All-Stars could be a fit for the Phillies in an offseason trade

Steven Kwan, OF

Rumors surfaced leading up to the trade deadline that the Cleveland Guardians were considering trading outfielder Steven Kwan. The idea that the team would trade one of its best offensive players is surprising. After José Ramírez, Kwan is the team's next best hitter.

Trade speculation involving the Phillies and Kwan began to increase as the deadline approached. The talks picked up considerably following the Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase being placed on administrative leave by the organization due to MLB's sports betting investigation. The pitcher had a very good chance of being traded before the news broke a few days before the July 31 trade deadline.

Kwan is earning over $4 million in 2025 and still has two more years of arbitration remaining on his existing deal. This is a bargain contract for a multiple-time All-Star. He is not a power hitter and is an ideal leadoff or second batter in a lineup.

Kwan, who will be 28 in September, is an exceptional defensive player, winning a Gold Glove Award in each of the last three seasons. The Phillies have had issues finding a left fielder who can be effective on both offense and defense, who is not part of a rotation. Kwan would solve that ongoing problem.

Sandy Alcantara, RHP

Miami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara has been mentioned in trade rumors for quite a while. There were some teams, such as the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs, seen as potential destinations by this year's trade deadline for the 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner.

If Suárez departs in free agency, the Phillies still have Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sánchez, Aaron Nola, Jesús Luzardo, and Taijuan Walker all under contract for 2026. Not to mention, the organization has top prospect pitcher Andrew Painter waiting in the wings for a potential rotation spot.

For a trade involving the Phillies acquiring Alcantara to come to fruition, they may trade Walker in a separate deal to rid themselves of his $18 million salary. Alcantara is scheduled to earn $17.3 million next year and has a $21 million club option for 2027.

It is likely that if Philly adds another starter this winter, Painter will begin next season with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in Triple-A. The young phenom may benefit from more time in the minors after missing all of the 2023 and 2024 seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery.

It has been a rocky year for Alcantara, who missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery. He got off to a terrible start in April, finishing with a 9.28 ERA in five appearances, and compiled an 8.64 ERA in the same number of outings in May. He is on pace to finish with the second-highest amount of walks in his career, as he has 51 this year.

He posted an ERA over 4.00 in each of the next three months. In four of Alcantara's last seven starts, he surrendered either zero or one earned run in each contest. He has been good over the last month. His 37 innings pitched ranks among the most as do his 36 strikeouts. The right-hander appears to be working his way back from his early season struggles after his UCL injury.

Miller writes that the pitcher's FIP is similar to what he finished with in the category during his breakout season in 2019. Alcantara had a 4.55 FIP that season compared to 4.30 this year. To the columnist's point, an organization will be buying low by trading for the Marlins pitcher this winter.

Admittedly, the possibility of the Phillies acquiring Alcantara is a pipe dream. However, if the franchise is unable to win the World Series in 2025, a blockbuster deal may be on the table for Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. If he feels pressured to go all-in this offseason to help win a championship next year, trading for a former Cy Young Award winner would be a good start.

Adolis García, OF

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García has dealt with his share of inconsistencies in the past two seasons following the club's World Series-winning year. He finished with 39 home runs and 107 RBI, career bests in both categories. He also posted career highs with 65 walks and 108 runs.

The 32-year-old made a name for himself during the 2023 playoffs, going 20-for-62 with a .323/.382/.726 line and an OPS of 1.108 in 15 contests. He also had eight home runs and 22 RBI.

He had his struggles in 2024, finishing with a .684 OPS and a .224/.284/.400 slash line in 154 games. García has been inconsistent this season. He has 18 home runs and 70 RBIs, along with a .231/.274/.409 line and a .683 OPS in 121 contests.

During this year's trade deadline, García's name surfaced as a fit for the Phillies before they acquired Harrison Bader. García is earning $10.5 million in 2025 and has one more year of arbitration remaining before he becomes a free agent in 2027.

García could be a candidate for Philadelphia to trade for in the offseason. Max Kepler will be a free agent, and Bader has a $10 million mutual option in his contract for next year. If Schwarber signs with another club this winter, the team has an opening in the designated hitter spot. This would be a possible role for García with Philadelphia. García has home run potential in the confines of Citizens Bank Park.
