Which Philadelphia Phillies players deserve to be All-Stars?

The Philadelphia Phillies are, once again, in the midst of a tumultuous, underperforming season, though fortunes have taken a rapid turn for the better since they fired Joe Girardi and replaced him with interim manager Rob Thomson.

But while they’ve underperformed every year since their last postseason berth in 2011, the Phillies always have some of the best individual talent in baseball. With the All-Star Game coming up, they have a chance to shine the spotlight on their diamonds in the rough.

Here are five Phillies who deserve All-Star recognition this year:

Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper should’ve been an All-Star last year, and fans can correct that mistake now.

To put it plainly, if you’re not voting Harper, what are you doing? Over his first 50 games of the season, he’s hitting .306 and leading the National League with a .628 slugging percentage.

A tear in his UCL has kept him out of right field since mid-April, but Harper is absolutely thriving as the Phillies’ designated hitter. Dating back to May 1, he’s hitting .345/.397/.743 with a 1.140 OPS, 11 home runs, 12 doubles in 28 games. Over his first six games of June, he’s homered five times.

Of course, with his injury, it’s likely Harper will opt out of the game regardless and take the break to rest instead. The former Home Run Derby champion still deserves the honor, though.
