Which players should the Philadelphia Phillies trade to improve their roster?

The Philadelphia Phillies are going to have to make moves if they want a shot at contending this season.

It’s disappointing to recognize that so early in the season, especially since they spent so much money constructing the current roster, but it’s true. Despite signing many players who should be upgrades – Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, Corey Knebel, Jeurys Familia, Brad Hand – they’re still somehow too inconsistent to make a run in their current form.

The 2022 trade deadline is still months away, but here are three emerging trade options the Phillies can stand to lose in order to make some gains…

The Phillies can trade Odúbel Herrera

If Mickey Moniak comes off the Injured List and picks up where he left off in spring training, the Phillies can absolutely afford to trade Odúbel Herrera.

The centerfielder’s off-field issues aside – since MLB teams don’t seem to care – he’d be a solid short-term addition for many teams.

Herrera is hitting well since coming off the Injured List, with a .297/.308/.622 line and .929 OPS over his first 13 games, which only improves his trade value. The Phillies should trade him and get something out of this contract before Herrera becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
