Revisiting preseason predictions for the Philadelphia Phillies after one month of the 2022 season

This week marks one month since Opening Day, and the Philadelphia Phillies are 11-14, tied for third in the National League East. They barely have a winning record at home and are 3-7 on the road.

I made bold predictions twice during the offseason, first during the lockout, and then again in spring training.

Let’s look at how those predictions are playing out…

1. The Phillies will be a Wild Card team

While the Phillies are tied with the Atlanta Braves for third in the NL East while the New York Mets look like a powerhouse. And as usual, the NL West is ultra-competitive, with all five teams playing .500 baseball or better, so the Wild Card outlook doesn’t look too great right now. The good news is that the season is only one month old, so there’s still time for the Phillies to get in the hunt.
