2. Corey Knebel, right-handed pitcher

A seven-year veteran and 2017 National League All-Star, right-handed reliever Corey Knebel appeared in 27 games last season for the Major League Baseball second-best Los Angeles Dodgers.

Spanning 25 2/3 innings, the Texas native impressively went 4-0 with a 0.974 WHIP and 30-9 strikeouts-to-walks ratio.

The Phillies signed Knebel to a one-year, $10 million deal just before the early December roster freeze. Considering his 2.45 ERA last season, Knebel is poised to be a significant upgrade for the bullpen that has continued to struggle in recent seasons.

Knebel led the National League in games played among pitchers in 2017 (76). That same year, he notched the third-most saves (39) and eighth-most games finished (48). A similar strong showing in 2022 would be nothing but good news for manager Joe Girardi and company.

3. Yoan Lopez, right-handed pitcher

An under-the-radar move made by Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski was claiming right-handed reliever Yoan Lopez off of waivers from the division-rival Atlanta Braves.

The late November move is intriguing, as the Cuba native went a combined 3-2 with a 3.28 ERA and 40-15 strikeouts-to-walks ratio across 35 appearances and 35 2/3 innings last season between the Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliates.

Lopez had a successful rookie showing with the Diamondbacks in 2018, recording a 3.00 ERA, 11-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio and 0.889 WHIP through 10 appearances and nine innings. Over the next three seasons, however, Lopez combined to go 2-8 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.327 WHIP ratio in 103 appearances and 92 2/3 innings.
