Wordle just might have a new fan in legendary Phillies manager Charlie Manuel.
Have you seen gray, yellow, and green blocks come across your social media feeds in recent weeks — along with the six-letter word “Wordle”? If you’re unfamiliar, it’s all connected to the popular daily word game of the same name. And legendary Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel just might now be hooked.
The 2008 World Series-winning skipper — who currently serves as a senior advisor to the general manager — took to Twitter Monday evening and shared his take on Wordle. As part of the game, users must guess a five-letter word in six attempts.
Each guess’ letters that are part of the correct answer (but are in the wrong position) are colored yellow, whereas letters that are correctly positioned are colored green. There is only one new word to guess every day — and with the easy functionality to share results on social media, everyone is eager to compare with their friends on how well they did.
Since Manuel’s wife, Missy, has a low Twitter following, she asked the fan-favorite manager to “brag” on her behalf. According to Manuel, Missy guessed Monday’s difficult “Knoll” word in just two of the six possible attempts.
“Missy wants me to brag on her because this morning she solved Wordle (don’t know what that is) in 2 guesses (don’t know what that means),” Manuel said. “Apparently none of her 42 Twitter followers care.”
When replying to fans, Manuel joked: “I told her to do that two times in a row, then I’d brag on her.”
Another fan commented that Missy’s feat was “almost as impressive as winning a World Series.” Charlie hilariously replied, “Almost … but nah.”
Wordle should throw Manuel and the 2008 Phillies a bone by having one of the upcoming words be “UTLEY” or “LIDGE.” If you’re looking to join in on the craze, the game can be played daily at www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle.
