Trevor Story would be an even more expensive signing than Kyle Schwarber, but hear me out.

Story is a shortstop but has also been eyed by several teams for an outfield role. If the Phillies are stuck paying the final year of Didi Gregorius’ contract, they can alternate between Story, Gregorius, and top prospect Bryson Stott, who is also a shortstop. Between the three of them, there is enough outfield, infield, and hitting experience to facilitate an expensive round-robin setup.

Over six seasons with the Colorado Rockies, Story hit .272/.340/.523 with a .863 OPS. He averages 39 doubles and 34 home runs per 162 games. Of course, take those numbers with a grain of salt, as the Rockies’ home-field advantage is strong; Coors Field is one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in the game.

If the Phillies feel like splurging, Story is a versatile upgrade.
