You have to see the Phillies’ latest tribute to Daniel Brito
The Philadelphia Phillies and their minor-league affiliates have been rallying behind beloved prospect Daniel Brito, who has been in the ICU for over a week.
Brito suffered a “medical emergency” during the first inning of a July 31 game in Rochester and was immediately rushed to the hospital. He had surgery that night, and a second surgery the following day. The Phillies brought his mother from Venezuela, as well as his girlfriend, to be with Brito, who remains in the ICU.
According to Joe Girardi, the shirts were Jean Segura’s idea.
The Double-A Reading Fightin Phils are also wearing the shirts on Tuesday.
Brito spent the majority of the season in Double-A before being promoted to the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
Lehigh Valley has been paying its own tributes to Brito throughout the last week, including players writing #29 on their baseball caps in silver Sharpie and wearing his name on their jerseys over the weekend.
The Rochester Red Wings, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, had been hosting the game in which Brito’s emergency occurred. They’ve sent messages of their own:

As of Monday, Brito was reported to be in critical condition in the ICU after developing a lung infection. He had previously been listed as stable, according to the Phillies.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Brito and his loved ones.
