The Philadelphia Phillies have won three in a row, but tonight will be a nail-biter.

These victories have come on the backs of dominant starts from Kyle Gibson, Ranger Suárez, and Zack Wheeler, and it’s a reminder of exactly how crucial good pitching is, and how little of it the Phillies have had this season. Tonight’s Phillies starter is Chase Anderson, who is markedly worse than his three pitching predecessors.

Then again, the Nationals just traded away most of their team, so anything is possible…

Phillies vs Nationals Odds Today

This one’s almost too close to call. The Phillies are -105 on the moneyline (bet $105 to win $100), while the Nationals are -115 (bet $115 to win $100).

The spread has Washington at +1.5 at -180 (bet $180 to win $100), while the Phillies are -1.5 at +150 (bet $100 to win $150).

If you’re into betting the total amount of runs, the over/under is 9.5 runs tonight. It’s +100 on the over (bet $100 to win $100) and -125 on the under (bet $125 to win $100).

Phillies Pitcher Today

Chase Anderson gets the start for Philadelphia tonight for the first time since May 16. He’s made five relief appearances since, but also missed significant time on the IL.

Over his eight starts between April 6-May 16, he had a 6.96 ERA, so tonight doesn’t look as promising as the starts Gibson, Suárez, and have made this week. But you never know! Hope springs eternal for baseball fans.

Paolo Espino goes up against Anderson tonight. He has a 3.08 ERA over 24 games this season, but like Anderson, has only made eight starts. Opposing batters are hitting .229 against him, so this game will either be really bad or a pitcher’s duel. It feels like there’s never any in-between when the Phillies and Nationals face off.

Phillies vs Nationals Prediction Today

This one feels like the Nationals should win, because Anderson is the starter. But that’s why I’m going to pick the Phillies. They never seem to do what it feels like they’re going to do.
