These New Era Phillies Caps Are Insanely Bad

These new Phillies caps are an absolute chaotic nightmare.

These caps won’t be selling out any time soon.

New Era revealed their yet another questionable line of MLB caps this week, and the reaction from the public is… a lot. It takes a lot to unite fans of different MLB teams, but these caps might have finally done it, because I haven’t seen one person think they look good. It’s like New Era saw the All-Star uniforms and said “Hold our beer.”

As Baseball Prospectus editor-in-chief Craig Goldstein noted, the Phillies one doesn’t even say Phillies. At least, not technically. The Giants cap is even worse.

Here are some of the many hilarious reactions to the latest drop:

These caps are more chaotic than the Sorting Hat when it made a terrified Harry Potter choose between Gryffindor and Slytherin. They look like the newspaper cut-outs a serial killer uses to send a ransom note to the authorities. As Mr. Banks sang in Mary Poppins, “In short, you have a ghastly mess!”

Phillies Reddit also absolutely tore into these new designs. One Redditor wrote, “I’m gonna downvote my own comment because this hat is so bad,” while another compared them to the team’s most problematic faction: “Whether it’s the Phillies bullpen or Phillies New Era hats, if your gonna be bad, be infamous.”

At this point, we have to ask ourselves if New Era is just trying to rile us up. A few fans speculated that it’s a ploy to get fans to go on their website and compare their worst designs.

Well, I did just that and had some fun with it:

You have to wonder what New Era gets out of these designs, considering no one seems to like them. The Phillies have some of the nicest uniforms in the game (powder blue unis >>>), so these caps just feel… insulting. But the biggest question is, if these are the designs that got approved, what on earth have they rejected?

One thing’s certain, more of these caps will end up in the bargain bin than on fans at the ballpark.
