The hits keep on coming for one Philadelphia Phillies division rival, the Atlanta Braves — and not the literal hits but rather the figurative ones.

Not only have the Braves lost four straight games and fallen to 12-16 on the season (fourth place in the National League East), but the team has also recently lost outfielder Guillermo Heredia (knee) to the injured list, as well as two of its catchers — Alex Jackson (hamstring) and former Phillies prospect Travis d’Arnaud (thumb sprain).

D’Arnaud was originally just placed on the 60-day injured list, however, on Sunday, it was revealed that the Braves will be without him for much longer than a potential July return. He has been diagnosed with a torn thumb ligament and therefore requires surgery, according to The Athletic’s David O’Brien.

The Phillies get two of their stars back, while the Braves lose Travis d’Arnaud.

Traded by the Phillies more than 10 years ago to acquire future Hall of Famer Roy Halladay from the Toronto Blue Jays, d’Arnaud suffered the injury on Sunday when tagging a runner at the plate. The Braves are hopeful he can return at some point near the end of the season.

For now, William Contreras and Jeff Mathis — who was a non-roster invitee at the 2021 Phillies spring training — will log innings for them behind the plate.

Other Braves currently sidelined include outfielder Ender Inciarte (hamstring), starting pitchers Max Fried (hamstring) and Mike Soroka (Achilles), and reliever Chris Martin (shoulder).

The Phillies’ injury list is not as extensive. Outside of Seranthony Dominguez (elbow) and Adam Haseley (personal) being sidelined for an undetermined amount of time, just Jean Segura (quadriceps) and Archie Bradley (oblique) are the main injuries at this time. J.T. Realmuto (hand) and Bryce Harper (face) had been out, but returned to the team’s lineup for the nationally televised series finale against the New York Mets.
