Former Phillie Sixto Sanchez is reportedly being called up by the Miami Marlins.

Sixto Sanchez, the right handed pitcher who was a top prospect in the Phillies minor-league system and was sent to Miami as part of the JT Realmuto trade, was called up by the Miami Marlins on Thursday.

It is expected that Miami will throw him right into their rotation, and deservingly so. Immediately becoming one of the Marlins’ top prospects when he was traded to the club in 2019, Sanchez posted a 2.76 earned run average in both Double-A and Triple-A combined.

While never making an appearance in a major-league game for the Phillies during his time with the club, he was sure to make his presence known within the organization and organizations beyond the Phillies with his fastball that reaches triple-digits.

Spending six years with the Phillies minor-league system, he was named Baseball America’s Rookie All-Star 2016 when he was with the GCL Phillies. In 2019, with the Marlins, he was selected to participate in the Future’s Game while he was in the FCL league on behalf of the Marlins organization.

It was only a matter of time before Sanchez was deservingly called up to a major-league team and it finally happened on Thursday. While his role within the team is to be determined by team officials, it is likely he will pitch in the fifth spot in the Marlins starting rotation. It’ll be interesting to see what Sanchez can produce while in the big-leagues.

As of now, the date for his major-league debut is to be determined as the team has yet to officially announce the roster moves. Thursday’s game was postponed after a Mets player and a staffer tested positive for COVID-19, throwing another stoppage in the way of Miami’s season after nearly their entire team tested positive.
