Another team will take the Phillies’ field  at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday

While the Philadelphia Phillies will likely resuming spring training at an empty Citizens Bank Park on July 1, another team of guys will take the field at the venue on Tuesday, June, 23, but not to swing a bat in batting practice or throw a pitch off the mound.

At 7:45 p.m., in partnership with the Phillies, Citizens Bank Park and Live Nation, Philadelphia’s own The Disco Biscuits will stream a free, live performance — “The Disco Biscuits Take You Out to the Ball Game” — from the infield dirt. Viewers may make charitable contributions while they watch, and all proceeds raised will benefit the PLUS1 For Black Lives Fund; donations will be further distributed to various organizations, including Urban League of Philadelphia.

The Phillies have committed several resources and personnel to help give the event the look and feel of a baseball game at Citizens Bank Park: jerseys for the musicians, Phanavision, an introduction from public address announcer Dan Baker, and other signature ballpark elements.

“I’m so proud of the team at The Disco Biscuits, on multiple accounts, for being able to pull this together and partner with both Live Nation and the Phillies on the biggest stage,” band member Marc Brownstein told NBC10. And then, of course, to seize the moment and turn this into a benefit and trying to find some organizations that are working to dismantle the systemic racism in our country.”

The Disco Biscuits had already been in discussions to perform at the home of the Phillies, when the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis sparked protests. They realized they needed to do something to show support, which led up to Tuesday’s performance.

Fans and supporters can watch the performance  on the official YouTube and Facebook pages of The Disco Biscuits, Phillies and Live Nation.
