The Phillies third baseman showed off his incredible transformation on social media
Last year one of the biggest concerns around Phillies then-shortstop Jean Segura was how out of shape he got.
The Phillies roster lists Segura at 205 lbs, but he clearly rounded out at the end of last season, one of his worst in the big leagues.
Segura has clearly been putting in some work this offseason and during quarantine, showing his body’s transformation in a post on Instagram.
In a very rough Google Translate of his post, Segura thanks his trainer for making him feel like an athlete again and saying how much his process has changed. The difference is heaven and earth for him.
During spring training 1.0 Segura talked about how he stopped drinking alcohol, specifically whiskey, and was eating better food.
The Phillies need Segura to get back to the .300+ hitter he was in Seattle before the trade prior to last season. When healthy and focused, Segura can be an impact bat atop the lineup who can get on base and start rallies.
Segura’s future with the team is already in doubt with him being moved to third base to make space for free agent Didi Gregorius.
Top third base prospect Alec Bohm is already knocking on the door of the big leagues and with there likely being no minor league season, Bohm could be part of the big league team or taxi squad in 2020.
