First baseman Rhys Hoskins will be the Phillies’ representative in the first-ever MLB The Show Players League, benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs.

Baseball may be on hold, however Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins is still set to compete — virtually — with fellow stars across the league. Starting Friday, April 10, one player from each team will participate in a first-of-its-kind, online MLB The Show Players League.

The league will allow fans to watch and interact with their favorite players; also, MLB, the MLBPA and Sony will donate $5,000 on behalf of each participating player to a Boys & Girls Club affiliate in their team’s community. An additional $25,000 will be donated to the affiliate of the player who wins the championship game, adding up to a $175,000 total donation.

Fellow National League East players Hoskins will compete against include the Atlanta Braves’ Luke Jackson, the Miami Marlins’ Ryne Stanek, the New York Mets’ Jeff McNeil, and the reigning World Series champion Washington Nationals’ Juan Soto.

Former Phillies first baseman Carlos Santana, outfielder Hunter Pence, and pitching prospect Trevor May will also compete, representing the Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, and Minnesota Twins, respectively.

Hoskins “warmed up” on the video game with a friendly matchup against the Miami Marlins’ Miguel Rojas on what would have been Opening Day on March 26. Hoskins won the game, 2-0, with both RBI coming from right-fielder Bryce Harper.

Now, across three weeks in the new league, players will each compete against each other once in three-inning games to make up a 29-game schedule. Then, the eight best players will advance to the “postseason,” slated to begin April 30, with the Division and Championship series being a best-of-three, and the World Series a best-of-five.
