On the last day of the Winter Meetings, West Chester native INF Phil Gosselin has re-signed with the Phillies on a minor-league deal with a spring invite.

The Phillies have made a signing on the last day of the Winter Meetings in San Diego.

On Thursday, they brought back seven-year veteran infielder Phil Gosselin on a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury.

The West Chester native played in just 44 games this past season, his first for his hometown team. Gosselin, a career .263/.312/.355 hitter, slashed .262/.294/.308 in red pinstripes with three doubles, no home runs, seven RBI, three walks and 16 strikeouts spanning 68 plate appearances. He collected 17 hits in 65 at-bats, and went 10-for-32 as a pinch-hitter.

In the field, Gosselin, 31, logged 33 innings in left field, 41 2/3 innings at shortstop and two innings at third base; he committed just one error (while at shortstop) spanning 21 combined chances.

Salisbury writes:

Gosselin spent the bulk of the season at Triple A Lehigh Valley, where he hit .314 with 8 homers, 47 RBIs and a .901 OPS in 296 at-bats.Active rosters will expand from 25 to 26 players next season so Gosselin will be in play for a spot on the lengthened bench along with veteran infielder Josh Harrison and others. Harrison recently signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies.

Also on Thursday, the Phillies selected utility infielder Vimael Machin from the Chicago Cubs, with the 15th pick in the Rule 5 Draft, and shortly after dealt him to the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations. The Phillies lost no players in the draft, held each year on the last day of the winter meetings.

Prior to the Phillies, Gosselin played in the majors for the Atlanta Braves (2013-15), Arizona Diamondbacks (2016), Pittsburgh Pirates (2017), Texas Rangers (2017) and Cincinnati Reds (2018).
