The Phillies promoted 2017 first-round pick Adam Haseley to Triple-A Lehigh Valley at an opportune time for the young outfielder.

Phillies promoted Adam Haseley to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, bringing him one step closer to the majors. The promotion caps off what has been a great month for the 23-year-old.

Since the calendar turned to May, Haseley has five home runs, 13 runs batted in, three stolen bases, and a .337/.410/.584 line in 24 games in Double-A Reading. In this time, he has an 11.0% walk rate and a 16% strikeout rate.

Overall this year, Haseley has a .268/.356/.471 line with a 141 wRC+ in 41 games. Among 204 qualified Double-A hitters, Haseley ranks 24th in OPS and slugging percentage and 26th in wRC+ and walk-to-strikeout ratio.

More from That Balls Outta Here

Haseley is the first of Philadelphia’s first-round picks since Aaron Nola to reach Triple-A. Given his quick rise through the minors, it may not be long before Haseley cracks the majors.

Haseley’s ascent to the majors could be hastened by the recent news surrounding Odubel Herrera. His future is now in doubt, potentially clearing the way for Haseley to slide into the center field position as soon as later this year.

As things stand now, Roman Quinn is the only true center fielder on the 40-man roster. His injury history puts him in a precarious position as well as the team will never really know how much they will get out of him.

Beyond Quinn, Scott Kingery and Nick Williams are the next two options in the outfield. Kingery only recently started playing center field again while Williams is best suited in left field, forcing Andrew McCutchen to play in center. Neither inspires confidence in center moving forward.

Haseley may turn out to be the best option for the team in center field if they decide to part ways with Herrera. Haseley would be serviceable defensively at the position; it’s just a matter of if he can hit enough to succeed at the plate in the majors.

For now, we will have to see how Haseley performs in Triple-A. He got off to a hot start with an RBI double in his first at-bat with the IronPigs.
