In a recent update for World Series betting odds, the Phillies are now tied for the fourth-best odds to win the championship come October.

BetOnline released updated odds for the 2019 MLB World Series Monday night and the Phillies are tied for the fourth-best odds to be the champions at the end of the year. They are tied with the Cubs and Cardinals at +1200.

The Yankees are the favorites in these odds at +700, with the reigning champion Red Sox right behind them at +750. The Astros and Dodgers one step behind Boston at +800. There is a clear gap between these four teams and the rest of the pack based on these odds.

Philadelphia’s odds are the best of any National League East team. The Braves and Mets are at +1600 with the Nationals at +2000. The Marlins unsurprisingly are tied for the second-worst odds to win the World Series at +15000 along with the Royals and Tigers.

Caesars Entertainment placed Philadelphia’s over-under for the year at 83 wins to open. This contrasts the odds published by BetOnline as Philadelphia was only projected to finish fourth based on Caesars’ betting lines.

Any and all odds for Philadelphia center around their pursuit of Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. If the team is able to sign one of them, their playoff and World Series chances jump through the roof. BetOnline’s odds are likely accounting for the addition of one of the two star free agents.

Without Harper or Machado, the club may not have enough to stack up in what has become a very competitive NL East on paper.

The Braves and Nationals remain strong contenders while the Mets have made significant strides this offseason. However, if Philadelphia does add Harper or Machado, they are right back in the thick of it.

Next. Phillies remain "heavy favorites" for Bryce Harper. dark

In the event Philadelphia adds one of Harper or Machado, they should quickly become a sexy pick to make a championship run, as these odds reflect.
