Phillies rumor: Manny Machado offers less than $300 million
A new Phillies rumor suggests a low price tag for Manny Machado
The latest Phillies rumor surrounding Manny Machado came across Saturday afternoon with a look at the potential price tag for the superstar infielder.
According to Jon Heyman, offers for Machado are not believed to be at the $300 million mark, at least not yet. Heyman also mentioned the Phillies could be higher than other offers, which could be in the $200,000-$250,000 range.
With all things being equal, Heyman sees Machado going to the Yankees, which is what we’ve heard all offseason.
If Machado really wants to be a Yankee and the Phillies are extremely desperate, which they predict to be, then Matt Klentak could be forced into offering a lot more to entice Machado.
The Chicago White Sox are believed to have sent a formal offer to Machado, and no word of an official offer from the Yankees or Phillies has been reported. Things could start to pick up for Machado now that the White Sox have laid out their deal and he’s visited all three clubs.
If Machado does go to New York, the Phillies are expected to go all-out to sign Bryce Harper, who they are meeting in Las Vegas sometime this week. Washington reportedly upped their offer to the superstar outfielder, who has congested the free agent hitters market early on.
Adding Harper would likely mean the end for Nick Williams, who could be traded to a team like Arizona for Robbie Ray. The Diamondbacks could use an outfielder with A.J. Pollock available as a free agent.
