The Phillies will be looking to add depth at the trade deadline. Which prospects may be shipped out of town? Here are some prospects that may be traded.

The Phillies lost out on Machado, Hand, Hamels and Britton, but that doesn’t rule out other moves that may involve shipping away some prospects. They have already made one trade, sending  Franklyn Kilome to the Mets for Asdrubal Cabrera. Which prospects could be traded next?

Adonis Medina, RHP, Clearwater

After Enyel De Los Santos was called up to the Phillies, Adonis Medina was selected to replace him in the Futures Game during the All-Star Break in Washington D.C. This year, Medina’s ERA and other statistics aren’t as good as they were the last few years, but he has been finding ways to win games. His ERA is a bit high at 4.64, but he has a 9-3 record.

The 21-year-old has the talent to become a staple in a rotation. Over his five-year minor league career, he is 23-20 in 73 games (62 starts) and opponents are hitting .230 against him.

His stock is pretty high right now, too. On July 21st, he pitched 7.0 scoreless innings, gave up two hits and struck out twelve batters against Florida.

The Phillies haven’t been part of the rumors for a pitcher like Chris Archer, but if general manager Matt Klentak decides to be aggressive, Medina would be a perfect candidate to send in a trade for a high-end starting pitcher.

JoJo Romero, LHP, Reading

JoJo Romero was just placed on the disabled list with an oblique strain, but he is still a valuable asset for the Phillies in trade talks.

In eighteen starts this year, Romero is 7-6 with a 3.80 ERA. Just like Medina, Romero is 21-years-old and is at a higher level this year than last. He’s had a bit of trouble adjusting but has been a solid starter of late.

Romero hasn’t given up more than two runs since June 9 and hasn’t given up more than three runs since June 4. In his last ten starts, he’s pitched at least six innings in all but two of them. In those two starts, he still managed to last five innings.

Romero could be part of a trade for another depth hitter like Asdrubal Cabrera or a bullpen arm to strengthen the Phillies’ back end. He most likely won’t bring back as much as Medina would, but as we saw in 2008, the smallest additions can make the biggest impact to a team.

Zach Green, 1B, Lehigh Valley

Zach Green started the year in Reading and demolished Eastern League pitching. In 77 games for the Fightin’ Phils, he hit 17 home runs and knocked in 53 runs. On top of the power, he also hit .296 during his time in Reading.

More from That Balls Outta Here

On July 12, he was promoted to Triple-A, playing 13 games so far for the Iron Pigs. He has struggled adjusting to the higher level competition. In those 13 games, he is only 8-for-43 with one home run and five RBI.

He showed his offensive potential in Reading and teams definitely took notice of that. In time, he’ll adjust to the better pitching and will start producing again. The Phillies may look to deal him with their logjam at first-base and in the outfield. They may be able to get a bench bat or a mid-tier reliever for Green. He could also be a secondary piece paired with another prospect in a bigger deal.

Austin Listi, 1B, Reading

Like Green, Austin Listi was promoted in the middle of this season. He hit .344 with nine home runs and 45 RBI in 58 games for Clearwater.

More from Phillies Prospects

In the 37 games since his promotion to Double-A, Listi has been almost just as good as he was in Single-A. He has six long balls and 22 RBI to go along with his .293 average.

Listi is a very similar case to Zach Green. He’s shown the ability to hit for power and average. However, there isn’t really room for him on the Phillies in a starting role.

The outfield is already over-crowded if they decided to convert him defensively and at first base, Carlos Santana and Rhys Hoskins won’t be losing their jobs anytime soon.

Listi is also a good candidate to be traded for a bench bat or a reliever to solidify the bullpen. He won’t bring back a great player, but right now the Phillies just need to add depth.

The Phillies probably aren’t going to make a blockbuster trade this week. With that being said, a few minor moves can help this team contend for the Division Title down the stretch.

Medina is the only one on this list that might bring back a large return, but the others can still help acquire players that can have a major impact on this team in the race for October.
