The Phillies representative for the All-Star game has been announced
Aaron Nola will be the Phillies sole representative at the 89th MLB All-Star game in Washington D.C. Rhys Hoskins, Odubel Herrera, and Seranthony Dominguez could be named alternates if an injury occurs to one of the starters or reserves.
The Phillies haven’t had multiple All-Stars since 2013 when Cliff Lee and Domonic Brown represented the team
Last year reliever Pat Neshek was the Phillies lone All-Star, while Herrera, Jonathan Papelbon, and Chase Utley preceded them.
Nola was certainly deserving of the All-Star selection as he leads the entire league with 11 wins going into his start on Monday. His .846 winning percentage and .466 home runs per nine innings also leads baseball through 18 starts.

He’s also second among all National Players in WAR with a 5.0 wins above replacement, just .4 points behind Jacob deGrom. Nola also rates in the top-10 among National League pitchers in WHIP, innings pitches, hits per innings, strikeouts, and WPA.
It’s unlikely Nola gets the start in Washington with hometown star Max Scherzer also receiving a selection, but it’s not impossible to see Nola getting an inning. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will have the decision after winning the National League pennant last year.
Odubel Herrera looked like an All-Star starter after his 45 game on-base streak early in the year, but his batting average has dipped down to .280 thanks to a slump. He’s still powering his way with a career-high 15 home runs thanks to a five-game home runs streak last month.
Rhys Hoskins has been on fire since breaking his jaw in Los Angeles on May 28, hitting .303 with eight home runs since that fateful night.
Seranthony Dominguez has been a lightning bolt for the bullpen since joining the club in May. Once considered a top-30 prospect in the organization, Dominguez has become the team’s unofficial closer, or at least used in the most stressful inning.
