Phillies: Top celebrities who are Philadelphia Phillies fans

The Phillies are not just popular amongst us, the fanbase.  You’ll be surprised to see some of these celebrities who love the Phils as much as we do.

Alright guys, so first and foremost, we all know that Mike Trout is the number one Phillies fan on the planet.  We also know that Mike will be reading this because he is such a mega fan.  So come on Mike, I have a feeling you would love us as much as we love you.  Come wear the superior shade of red in Philadelphia.  The Eagles also play here too, in case you forgot.

Now that we have our recruiting out of the way, let’s take a look at some very recognizable Phillies fans.

Bradley Cooper

Most notably known for being a huge fan of the Eagles, Bradley Cooper is also one of our most famous fans of the Fightin’ Phils.  Most will remember him from his role in Silver Linings Playbook, as well as big-time hits like The Hangover, American Sniper, and Wedding Crashers. 

He was born on January 5th, 1975 in Philadelphia and grew up in Jenkintown.

When he spoke to Philly.com for an interview, he said that his dad was the biggest influence on his Philadelphia sports super fandom.

In fact, MLB.com reported that Cooper joined Phillies owner John Middleton and his family in Jeffrey Lurie’s suite for the NFC Championship game against the Minnesota Vikings this past season.  Cooper is a Philly guy and he’s proud of it.

Rob McElhenney

Big surprise, the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rob McElhenney, better known as Mac, is also a big Philly sports fan.  McElhenney grew up in South Philadelphia and went to St. Joe’s Prep for high school.

The Always Sunny crew have made multiple episodes surrounding the Phillies, even featuring guest appearances by Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.

And, of course, McElhenney had to make an episode about the 2008 World Series titled “The World Series Defense.”  Not exactly any baseball in that episode, but there was a hilarious fight scene between Charlie Day and a faux-Phanatic.

Incredible stuff.  I’ve said for years now, if you don’t find It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia humorous, then you just can’t be trusted.

Miles Teller

Miles Teller has starred in blockbuster hits such as Fantastic Four, War Dogs, Bleed for This, and The Spectacular Now.

If you have watched the Phillies play recently, you may have seen Miles Teller throw the first pitch in this past Wednesday’s game against the Yankees.  There are many celebrity Phillies fans, but Teller might just be the most enthusiastic.

When Rhys Hoskins hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, the only runs that would score, Teller loved it.  He was just as pumped as any of us to see a Phillies home run, even pre-All Star Break.  He’s obsessed.  He’s one of us.

The guy shows up for Spring Training games.

And casually tweets about a random May series win.

Miles Teller, I guarantee you have gained yourself some fans.

Will Smith

For this one, you really don’t even have to mention more than his name.  Will.  Smith.  Big Willie Style.  The Fresh Prince himself.  From West Philadelphia, born and raised…

Will Smith has to be the most internationally famous person who is an avid Phillies fan.  The part owner of the Sixers has been pictured sporting Phillies gear many times.

In 1989, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff won the first ever hip-hop Grammy for the famous theme song of Fresh Prince of Bel Air.  Both wore Phils jerseys to accept the reward.

Smith has been the star of some of the biggest Hollywood movies in American history, such as Collateral Beauty, I am Legend, Concussion, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Hitch.  He is currently working on multiple projects, even slated to play the Genie in a new rendition of Alladin.  It seems that the Fresh Prince is far from done.

Shemar Moore

Shemar Moore is most famous for his role in the tv-series, Criminal Minds.  He is also known for his earlier-role in the soap opera, The Young and the Restless, which lasted from 1994-2005.

He won Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama series from 1998-2002, and again in 2005, 2006, and 2015 for his roles in both series (via IMDb).

Though he is from Oakland, California, Moore is another celebrity fan of the Phillies.  TMZ has pictured him rocking a Phillies cap on a beach.

Hafthor Bjornsson

Much more commonly known to Game of Thrones fans as “The Mountain,” Hafthor Bjornsson is a big man.  We do not hear much about him being a fan, but Bjornsson has been around the team and had some fun with them.

When he isn’t playing his larger-than-life character on the HBO mega-hit, Bjornsson could possibly be found playing King Thor of Laxardal at the Philadelphia Renaissance Fair.  That’s where he was in 2015, as reported by NBC Sports Philadelphia, when he stopped by Citizen’s Bank Park to take some batting practice.

Apparently The Mountain did not impress with his swing, but we’re happy to have him on our side.

James Cramer

James Cramer is probably best-known as the host of CNBC’s Mad Money.  He has also published at least nine books, mostly about financial responsibility.  He was born in the Philadelphia-area, and still lives in New Jersey today.

Cramer revealed that one of his first jobs was as an ice cream vendor in Veterans Stadium for Phillies games, as reported by NBC Sports Philadelphia.

He never abandoned his home-town team, either.  Cramer threw out the first pitch in a May, 2015 game against the Diamondbacks.  And he wasn’t shy about how great a pitch it was.

He is vocal about his love for Philadelphia, once saying that Philly was similar to “an incredibly undervalued stock” (via Phillymag.com).

Carrot Top

Carrot Top became known in the stand-up comedy scene, largely as a prop comedian, in the 1980’s.  He would then go on to have a successful television and movie career, from starring in the ’90’s comedy Chairman of the Board to making appearances on shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2011.

You can still find Carrot Top doing stand up at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.

He also made an appearance at the Phillies spring training earlier this season.  The Phils asked Carrot Top to throw out the first pitch, and MLB.com provided the video.  His hair did not disappoint.

Amanda Seyfried

If you didn’t know, Amanda Seyfried is from Allentown, PA.  She made her debut on the television shows As the World Turns and All My Children, but she really made her mark with the blockbuster hit Mean Girls in 2004.

More recently, Seyfried played roles in Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!, and Nine Lives.  She won multiple awards for Best Ensemble cast for her contributing role in Les Miserables.

Currently, she is working on a sequel to Mama Mia!, along with a couple others.

With all of the success that she has enjoyed, she has not lost site of her roots.  She has been known to be spotted wearing Phillies gear when she is out in public.

Ryan Phillipe

From his first big-movie hit, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Ryan Phillipe has been on the Hollywood radar for a long time.  In fact, IMDb credits Phillipe for 57 acting roles in his career.

Hailing from New Castle, Delaware, Ryan Phillipe is also a known Phillies fan.  He made an appearance on the Rich Eisen show last week to discuss just that.  And as Eisen astutely pointed out, you can’t spell Phillipe without Phillie.
