It took 15 innings for the Philles to take the win via a walkoff double by Nick Williams. They beat the Marlins 9-8 late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

It took extra innings, but the Phillies were able to win game one of their three-game series with the Miami Marlins.

Philadelphia’s two young star hitters, Rhys Hoskins and Nick Williams, took center stage in the 9-8 win.

Nick Pivetta had a rocky start, as he allowed seven runs in his five innings of work. He gave up eight hits, including one home run. His ERA is now a 6.75.

For the Marlins, rookie Dillon Peters went six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits. He was removed from the game after six full innings of work.

Hoskins had himself a night as he homered twice, including one home run that tied up the game after the Marlins scored a run the tenth inning. Both of his home runs were utter bombs, with the first going for 431 feet into the second deck in left field.

His second home run went 413 feet over the fence in straightaway center.

Hoskins continues to rack up records, becoming the quickest player to reach 16 home runs by a wide margin. His 114 at-bats to reach 16 home runs comes ahead of Mike Schmidt (115 at-bats) and Hank Aaron (137).

The bullpen consisted of six men in the game. Hector Neris went two innings and had 35 pitches. He would more then likely be not available for game two of the three game series. Victor Arano made his major-league debut, giving up a hit but not allowing anyone to score in his 0.2 innings of work.

Thanks to Pivetta’s poor start, the Phils were put into an early hole. However, Philadelphia was able to come back from their deficit as they scored one run in the seventh, three runs in the eighth, and one more run in the ninth to tie the game up.

Hyun Soo Kim would’ve been the hero, as he singled to right field which initially scored two runs. However, the play at the plate would be under review and Cesar Hernandez was out at the plate.

Neris gave up a run to the Marlins in the top of the tenth, but Hoskins’ home run in the bottom of the inning kept the game tied and forced it to go well into the night.

Edubray Ramos came up with the win as he pitched two scoreless innings. He earned his second win of the season, which makes his record now 2-7.

The hero of the night would be Williams, as he hit a walk-off double in the left field corner in the bottom of the 15th inning. The ball went far enough to score speedy Aaron Altherr to win the game.
