Rhys Hoskins has shocked the entire baseball world, and he hasn’t even been in the big leagues for a month. In only 25 games played, he already hit 12 home runs – passing Miami Marlins shortstop Dee Gordon in career home runs.

Not only the amount of home runs in such a short time, but the incredible amount of RBI’s he has accumulated over just 25 games in the big leagues.

He’s most likely to be the Phillies everyday 1st baseman, and sometimes an outfielder, for seasons to come. Here’s why.

Tommy Joseph Out As Everday First Baseman Possibility

Currently, Tommy Joseph is seen as the everyday 1st baseman, but that isn’t going to last for long. He is in this incredibly bad slump in the month of August, he is 16-for-91, and, since Hoskins primarily plays first base, why is there a need to keep Joseph on the roster if he continues to be this bad?

This season, Joseph is .247/.301/.472 with the Phillies. Hoskins is .318/.420/1.196 up in the big leagues so far, including 12 home runs.

In the minors, Hoskins was the home run leader in the International league. Most recently, he won the Int’ll league MVP award.

Joseph, who is just 26-years old, might find himself a better role with a different organization.

Joseph’s contract expires following the end of this season, and the Phillies are unlikely to resign him as they don’t need him.

Hoskins and Joseph duo can still happen, as Hoskins has adjusted to playing in the outfield so it’s very possible Hoskins can play 1st base when Joseph needs a day off.

However, injured outfielders Aaron Altherr and Odubel Herrera are set to return to the Phillies following hamstring injuries. So, Hoskins will likely remain get starts in 1st base more often than the struggling Joseph.
