A new start has begun for a Phillies team that was in dire need of one.

The second half of the season will be telling for the Phillies.

Who stays? Who goes? Who’s here for the long run?

Let’s take a look at the best and worst players coming out of the All Star Break.

All statistics referenced from Fangraphs.com

PHOENIX, AZ – JUNE 25: Tommy Joseph
PHOENIX, AZ – JUNE 25: Tommy Joseph /

Least Valuable Position Player

Tommy Joseph

Joseph has been streaky all season and it appears that he is on a downtrend. Joseph has a .200 average with no home runs in his first nine games of the second half.

Runner Up

No One

With the exception of Joseph, a majority of the Phillies hitters have had a decent run coming out of the All Star break. We’ll have to see how long that lasts.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – JUNE 18: Nick Pivetta

Least Valuable Pitcher

Jeremy Hellickson

A poor start to the second half has Hellickson’s trade value spiraling. The veteran righty has given up eight earned runs in ten innings.

Hellickson has been one of the more disappointing parts of this season as expectations and trade value hopes were high to start the season.

Runner Up

Adam Morgan

At this point it seems as if Morgan will be on this list as long as he remains on the Phillies. In his limited 2.2 innings, Morgan had a BAA of .300 and with three hits, two walks and two earned runs.

MILWAUKEE, WI – JULY 15: Odubel Herrera

Odubel Herrera

Herrera has come out of the gates hot for Philadelphia in the second half. In his first 34 at bats after the All Star break, the flamboyent center field is batting .412 with nine extra base hits including three home runs.

Runner Up

Nick Williams

Williams has been a bright spot ever since donning the red and white pinstripes.

The 23-year-old is hitting .333 with two doubles, two triples and three home runs since the break.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – JULY 21: Pitcher Aaron Nola

More from That Balls Outta Here

Aaron Nola

Nola has gone from question mark to ace quickly. He has given up just three earned runs in 13 innings while striking out 16.

Nola has become a clear candidate for the teams opening day start next season while also solidifying his role in the rebuilding process.

Runner Up

Pat Neshek

For the last time, Pat Neshek makes an appearance on the weekly award winners list.

The side slinger was traded on Wednesday but was as impressive as always the week prior. Neshek gave up one hit and struck out nine over five innings after the break.
