A 4-2 record this week has the Phillies right back in the mix in the NL East.

Philadelphia now sits third in the division, just one game behind the second place Marlins heading into Sunday’s match-up with the Atlanta Braves.

We are starting to see some players becoming regulars on the weekly award list, but some new names have snuck into this week’s roundup.

Let’s take a look at the award winners for the week of April 16th-April 22nd.

Most Valuable Position Player: Runner Up

Cesar Hernandez

Hernandez continued his hot streak as the 26-year-old went 10 for 28(.357) with two XBH and three stolen bases this week. Hernandez hit his 3rd home run of the season during the week, tying him for the team lead in home runs with Maikel Franco.

The switch-hitting second baseman is finding himself accustomed to the weekly awards list, and it seems as if the trend will only continue in the future.

Most Valuable Pitcher: Runner Up

Joely Rodriguez

Rodriguez could have easily been the MVP this week, but he will have to settle for runner-up instead. The lefty appeared in four games during the week totaling five innings.

Rodriguez gave up zero runs on just two hits while striking out three batters in the process.

Least Valuable Position Player: Runner Up

Cameron Rupp

Although batting a semi-respectable .250 on the week, Rupp continues to be one of the low men on the totem pole. The veteran backstop struck out in nearly half(7Ks in 16ABs) of his at-bats this week.

The positive side is that Rupp provided some power during the week as he managed to add three doubles to his yearly totals.

Least Valuable Pitch: Runner Up

Joaquin Benoit

After gaining the closer role, Benoit has subsequently lost it as well. The 39-year-old appears in four games this week, giving up three earned runs in just 3.2 innings.

I’m petty with this decision as it could easily have gone to Aaron Nola but giving up a walk-off home run to Bryce Harper after allowing Chris Heisey, a career .242 hitter, to reach via walk is the type of thing that lands you on this list.

Least Valuable Position Player

Maikel Franco

The RBIs are there, very little else is. Franco struggled once again at the plate recording just four hits in 25 at bats. Franco is an enigma at this point, and it’s becoming a concern for the future.

Franco is on pace to hit 28 home runs this year, and he is just 24 but the average needs to improve if he wants to succeed at the Major League level.

This is Franco’s first LVPP Award of the season.

Least Valuable Pitcher

Edubray Ramos

No words, just video.

This is Ramos’ first LVP award of the season.

Most Valuable Position Player

Aaron Altherr

Altherr is making the most of Howie Kendrick’s absence. The 26-year old hit .429 on the week with four doubles while stealing two bases in the process. Altherr is making a case for himself to remain in the lineup once Kendrick’s DL stint is over.

This is Altherr’s first MVPP award of the season.

Most Valuable Pitcher

Jeremy Hellickson

The 30-year-old right-hander put up another tremendous start this week striking out five batters over seven innings while only giving up two runs on three hits.

Hellickson is now 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA and 0.71 WHIP on the season. His stock is high, and the Phillies cannot wait until the deadline to deal him. Obviously, April 23rd is a little too soon to find a suitor, but if Hellickson continues to throw at this pace, the move needs to happen sooner rather than later.

This is Hellickson’s second MVP award of the season.
