Coming off a victory on Opening Day, the Philadelphia Phillies will take the field for the second time this season and face off against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

On Monday afternoon, the Phillies avenged last year’s loss in Cincinnati on Opening Day with a 4-3 victory this time around.

Cesar Hernandez and Freddy Galvis each chipped in a solo home run, giving Jeremy Hellickson and the bullpen just enough run support to capture the victory to start the season.

After a day off on Tuesday, the Phightin’ Phils will face off against the Reds for the second game of the three-game series to start the 2017 season.

Philadelphia’s most consistent and durable starter from last season, Jerad Eickhoff will take the mound for the first time this season tonight.

Eickhoff will be opposed by 23-year-old lefty Brandon Finnegan, who is coming off his first full season as a starting pitcher last season. Read more about Finnegan in Mike’s “Opposition Roadblock.”

Many members of the Phils lineup faced Finnegan last season, but no player has more than five at-bats against him. Maikel Franco found success against Finnegan last season, as he delivered a two-run homer off Finnegan in five at-bats against him last season.

Pete Mackanin went with a similar lineup to Monday’s but he swapped out Michael Saunders for Aaron Altherr in right field. The move is likely because the Phils will face the left-handed Finnegan versus the right-hander Scott Feldman.

Both new veterans, Howie Kendrick and Saunders, had impressive first days in a Phils uniform as Kendrick tallied three hits and Saunders picked up a RBI double in his first at-bat.

Eickhoff is coming off a season in which he finished second on the team in wins with 11 and led the team innings with 197 and 1/3.

Many hope Eickhoff can bring the same type of consistency to the rotation this season and he will have his first opportunity to do that on Wednesday night.

Eickhoff will be facing many of the Reds’ hitters for the first time on Wednesday as the lone hitter with an at-bat against him is Scooter Gennett.
