Missing the Giants roster, Phillies legend Jimmy Rollins career appears to be fading
Jimmy Rollins spent the majority of last season on the television set after failing to perform with the Chicago White Sox. After attending the Giants spring training this winter Rollins learned he would not make the team.
Many have spelled this as the Phillies all-time hits leader’s final chance to play in the major leagues. With Opening Day soon approaching, it certainly appears J-Roll’s career has reached it’s twilight.
If Jimmy could get one final chance to play this year, his hometown team in Oakland could be the final destination.
Currently playing Marcus Semien at shortstop, the A’s could use a veteran presence on a young team looking to breakout in 2017. The marriage of Rollins and Oakland would be the perfect ending to his career as he would be able to go full-circle.
If Oakland can not give Rollins a chance to play, he will likely retire as a Phillie some point this year. With a career worthy of the Hall of Fame, no one could blame the 38-year-old Rollins for stepping aside.
If this is the end, Rollins finishes his career with 2,455 hits, 231 home runs, 470 stolen bases, an MVP, four Gold Gloves, and a World Championship.
Charlie Manuel talked about Jimmy’s career on 97.5 The Fanatic with Anthony Gargano on Friday, and was very clear on how he felt about his shortstop.
