Manny Trillo helped lead the Phillies to their first World Championship, but does he belong on the Phillies Wall of Fame next to the franchise greats?

Every generation of Phillies fans has a personal favorite regardless of whether or not the player was a superstar. In the 1980’s playing next to Mike Schmidt and Pete Rose was a Gold Glove infielder who was beloved in the city of Philadelphia during his short tenure.

But does being a fan favorite who helped win a World Series give someone the right to earn induction onto the Phillies Wall of Fame?

We break down Manny Trillo’s case as a candidate for the Phillies Wall of Fame.

In four seasons with the Phillies Trillo hit .277 with 118 extra-base hits and 30 stolen bases. Trillo’s trophy case is overflowing from his time in Philadelphia, where he earned three Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, attended two All-Star Games, was the MVP of the 1980 NLCS, and won a World Series the same year.

Let’s first compare Trillo’s resume with other Phils already on the Wall of Fame.

Mike Lieberthal and Darren Dalton played more than a decade longer in Philadelphia, and Lieberthal accumulated more than double the number of hits.

John Kruk hit more than .30 points better than Trillo and accumulated 200 more hits. While Kruk doesn’t have the ring the stats and tenure time is not comparable.

Beyond those recent names you can not compare Trillo to Larry Bowa, Tony Taylor, or any members of the 1980 World Series team.

With names such as Pete Rose, Bobby Abreu, and Brad Lidge soon to hit the Wall of Fame ballot one can expect Trillo’s chances to dim sooner than later.
