Phillies Wall of Fame will get even stronger this summer

One of the Phillies best traditions is the Wall of Fame in Ashburn Alley and the ballot for this year’s candidate has been released.

Reports that came out earlier in the week saying Pete Rose would be on the ballot for the first time, and today’s release confirms that.

Joining Rose on the ballot will be Scott Rolen, Rick Wise, Placido Polanco, Manny Trillo, Steve Bedrosian, Larry Christenson, Jim Fregosi, Gene Garber, and Ron Reed.

Fans can vote for their top three from those 10 candidates, and the top five from the fan vote will go to a special committee for a vote.

Unless Scott Rolen or Jim Fregosi pulls an upset, Pete Rose is most likely the inductee for this year.

Arguably the greatest free agent signing in the history of the organization the all-time hits leader helped bring Philadelphia baseball their first championship.

Hope for the other candidates should not be strong beyond this year’s ballot. Names such as Roy Halladay and Brad Lidge will be up for selection very soon. Members of the 2008 team such as Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Carlos Ruiz will also be unanimous once they retire and reach the ballot.

Beyond those legends, players such as Shane Victorino, Matt Stairs, Cliff Lee, Bobby Abreu, and Brett Myers will get consideration from the organization.

Hopefully down the line Fregosi, Rolen, Trillo, and Wise get their opportunities to make the Wall. It would not surprise me to see the Phillies begin to have two inductees a year: one a “modern era” while the other looking pre-1993 team.
