Phillies Offseason Review: Best Free Agent Signing
Phillies general manager Matt Klentak made some major upgrades
After another dismal season of Phillies baseball, manager Pete Mackanin openly expressed his desire to add more veterans. His general manager Matt Klentak did just that, and more.
Klentak made a series of trades and free agent signings that will improve the club not just this year, but for many to come.
Here’s who the TBOH staff thought was the best free agent signing made by the Phillies this offseason.
John Town: I think retaining Andres Blanco was best because he was one of the better players last year
Tyler King: I would have to go with Joaquin Benoit, he brings stability and competition to the back end of the bullpen
Mike Azzalina: I would go with Michael Saunders. Protecting Franco and Joseph is going to be really important for their development.
George Gouvas: Benoit. The value of solid RP at the deadline are usually high. Could mean a nice prospect in return
Evan Gusz: Benoit but the trade for Clay Buchholz will end up being the biggest addition. Personally, I think they’ll have a lot of packages traded this year with younger depth prospects and these veteran guys going together.
Sean Duckworth: Saunders, solely based on position of need and potential return come the trade deadline
