It was a rough week for Phillies baseball. The team managed just two wins in six games played, dropping two of three against both the Dodgers and Cardinals at home this week.

The big story this week for the Fightins was the homecoming of the iconic Chase Utley. Appearing in Dodger Blue at Citizen’s Bank Park for the first time since he was traded last year, Chase received a hero’s welcome in South Philly. The beloved former Phillie received a long standing ovation from the Fightins faithful who were happy to see “The Man” back in the City of Brotherly love, even if he was playing for another team.

Utley responded with two homers (including a grand slam) in the Dodgers 15-5 blowout of the Phils on Friday. Surprisingly, Phillies fans cheered both of Utley’s dingers. It seems no matter what Utley can do no wrong in this town.

Let’s take a look at who was surging and who was struggling for the Fightins.

Peter Bourjos improved at the dish, hitting .300 with a double and triple this week.

Jimmy Paredes struggled coming off a decent week. The outfielder hit just .222 with three strikeouts in nine at-bats.

Adam Morgan bounced back nicely this week after some recent struggles. Morgan gave up just one earned run in six innings pitched in the Fightins 4-3 loss to the Cardinals on Friday.

Struggling Arms

It was another poor week for the Fightins starting rotation. Jake Thompson, Vincent Velasquez, and Jerad Eickhoff all had rough starts this week. The trio combined to give up 19 earned runs in 22.2 innings pitched this week (with 10 charged to Velasquez over two starts).

Elvis Araujo had a disastrous week out of the Phillies pen. Araujo gave up six earned runs in just 0.1 innings pitched this week.

Edubray Ramos also struggled out of the bullpen this week. Ramos gave up two earned runs in just two innings pitched.

The Phillies called up right handed reliever Frank Hermann to replace Aaron Nola on the 25 man roster, and the early results were brutal. Hermann has given up five earned runs in just three innings pitched this week.
