It’s no secret the New York Yankees need a shortstop. It’s not a surprise they checked on Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins.
ESPN’s Jayson Stark reports the Yankees indeed considered Rollins to fill the role Derek Jeter occupied for so long.
Multiple sources say #Yankees talked to #Phillies about trading for Jimmy Rollins. But asking price was so high, Yanks moved on....

Stark also says general manager Ruben Amaro still thinks highly of Rollins.
More on Rollins: Ruben Amaro wouldn't confirm #Yankees interest but said Rollins is "one of best SS in baseball still" (so he'd want a lot)

Amaro said Rollins is "somebody we want on our club" & would be "very hard to replace." Rollins was never asked to waive no-trade for NYY

Rollins has 10-and-5 rights and has been in the Phillies’ system his entire career.
Cole Hamels rumors continue to swirl and Stark reports Ruben Amaro has received offers on the southpaw ace.
Ruben Amaro says he’s already had “some very appealing offers” for Hamels but “not one I like enough to move on yet” http://t.co/zEpa8zsV6j

According to Stark, Amaro isn’t the only one who sees he should only act on a Hamels deal for the right return.
One rival official on Phillies/Hamels: “I’ll tell you what. If they do this...they’ve got to get this right. They can’t get this one wrong”

Some recently reported potential suitors for Hamels include the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.
