The Philadelphia Phillies 40-man roster took three steps to being a full 40 this week, however, some of the players on it may certainly be dealt at any time.

Three young pitchers were put on the 40-man roster earlier this week. The most notable is the Phillies number four prospect, southpaw Jesse Biddle who recently had to leave Puerto Rican winter ball after injuring his throwing elbow. He went back to Philadelphia to have his elbow examined by the club physician.

Another left-hander, Adam Morgan, was also put on the 40-man roster. He’s coming off a shoulder injury that presumably kept him from entering the big leagues already. After surgery, Morgan pitched for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League this year.

Morgan’s teammate with the Scorpions, Nefi Ogando, has also been put on the Phillies 40-man. Ogando, a righty, was named the AFL Fall Stars Game.

There are now 21 pitchers on the 40-man roster, including recent signing Elvis Araujo. There are now two spots open on the roster.

Those placed on the 40-man roster are protected from the Rule 5 Draft.
