Emotional reaction immediately after the game

When the Big Piece is on, so is the Phillies offense.

Less emotional reaction after thinking about it a bit

Nice to see the Phillies rally for a victory. If Ryan Howard can get hot, this offense could be dangerous.

Heroes

Howard had four hits including the game-winning RBI in the eighth. Jimmy Rollins had three hits of his own including a home run.

Goat

Kyle Farnsworth allowed three base runners – and the winning run – in his one inning of work.

Game time: 1:10 PM

Starting pitchers: Cole Hamels (0-2) vs. Jon Niese (2-2)

Preview

Normally, when the Phillies are looking for a sweep, it’s a good thing that Cole Hamels is the scheduled starter. However, Hamels has had two shaky starts in a row, and has traditionally struggled against the Mets. It would be very uplifting for the Phillies if he could reverse both of those trends.

Jon Niese faced the Phillies last week and pitched very well, giving up one run in seven innings. The lefty will look to duplicate that success as the Mets try to avoid a sweep.

Rant SportsThe Reid Brignac era should be a short one

Reid Brignac was recently called up to the Phillies to replace the struggling Freddy Galvis. But in a perfect world, Brignac’s stay would not be a long one. Brignac was doing well in the minors, but his major league history indicates that he will not be able to duplicate that success with the Phillies.

Hopefully the big three can start delivering like that more often.
