Will the Philadelphia Phillies make trades this winter? They were a possible destination for outfielders who are rumored to be traded. However, they may no longer be pursuing outfielders based on president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski's comments following the Adolis García signing.
The Phillies still have to resolve their catcher situation, whether it's re-signing J.T. Realmuto, signing another free agent, or acquiring another starter via trade. If Dombrowski trades Alec Bohm, they will need to find another starting third baseman as well. The infielder will be a free agent following the 2026 season, so they will need to find a replacement if he remains on the roster through next season.
Who might look like good trade targets for the Phillies as we head into the New Year?
Lightweight Phillies trade target: Isaac Paredes, 3B
The Phillies will be looking for another third baseman if the front office decides to trade Bohm this winter. Despite Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown's insistence that Isaac Paredes won't be traded this offseason, the team has several infielders and may trade from this crop of players.
Paredes will make $10 million next season in arbitration. He has two years of club control before becoming a free agent after the 2027 season.
Paredes finished with 20 home runs, 53 RBIs, and a .254/.352/.458 line with an .810 OPS in 102 games this season. While his offensive statistics aren't an improvement over Bohm's, the 26-year-old may be an available trade option for the Phillies to consider if they are looking to make a change at third base and aren't considering signing free agents Alex Bregman or Eugenio Suárez.
Middleweight Phillies trade target: Ryan Jeffers, C
Ryan Jeffers is one of the rumored trade candidates at catcher this offseason. If the Phillies don't re-sign Realmuto, Dombrowski will need to pivot to the trade market to acquire another starting catcher. The Minnesota Twins traded 10 players at the trade deadline, including two (Jhoan Duran and Harrison Bader) to the Phillies.
Jeffers totaled nine home runs, 47 RBIs, a career-best 26 doubles, and a .266/.356/.397 line, along with an OPS of .752 in 119 contests this year.
Jeffers has one more year of arbitration remaining before he becomes a free agent next winter. The Phillies could secure their backstop for 2026 with the 28-year-old and revisit the position next offseason.
Heavyweight Phillies trade target: Brendan Donovan, INF/OF
The Phillies aren't viewed as a possible fit for one of the rumored St. Louis Cardinals trade pieces this winter in Brendan Donovan. However, they should consider a trade if they are considering making a change in their infield.
If Bohm is traded, the Phillies will need another third baseman. While the 28-year-old Donovan has played 225 career games at second base and 163 in left field, he has also played 46 at third.
Donovan had 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, and a slash line of .287/.353/.422, along with a .775 OPS in 118 games this year. He’ll earn an expected $5.75 million next year before entering his final year of arbitration in 2027.
