Jimmy Rollins Signs Minor-League Deal with Giants
Jimmy Rollins is giving himself one final shot to play baseball
After being released by the Chicago White Sox last season, it appeared Jimmy Rollins could be hanging up the cleats for good. He spent the remainder of the season working with Fox Sports as an analyst, and his future in the entertainment industry is bright.
But the 38-year-old is not ready to wear a suit every day, and will sign a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants. Rollins will attend spring training as a non-roster invitee with an opportunity to earn a roll as a veteran bench player.

Rollins grew up in Oakland, and had the opportunity to play for the Dodgers when the Phillies traded him after the 2014 season.
In 41 games with the White Sox last season, Rollins hit just .221/.295/.329 with two home runs before being released.
San Francisco has their everyday shortstop set with Brandon Crawford, who hit .275 with 12 home runs. Rollins will most likely be competing with Ehire Adrianza for the back-up job.
In 15 seasons with the Phillies, Rollins hit .264 with 231 home runs, and became the franchise’s all-time hits leader with 2,455. His 2007 season earned him the National League MVP award, and Rollins took home four Gold Gloves at shortstop.
Philadelphia will host the Giants on the first weekend in June.
